Dollhouse renovation has begun

On Facebook you have all these groups where you can buy and sell stuff. Some even give away things. As a child I always wanted a dollhouse, but for some reason I never got one. I made my own houses with books and spend hours on building them and playing with my dolls. Now that I’m older and having a daughter of my own the dollhouse desire has come back with a vengeance. On one of those Facebook groups I found a warehouse dollhouse. When I picked it up I was a little disappointed, because it really needed a lot of tlc. However, I could still see the potential of it, so I stripped it and threw away all the rotten bits. This included the front, back and bottom. I have replaced the back and I am still working on the front and bottom bits. It is slowly getting there. I have been a little distracted by this second dollhouse. Where as the warehouse is going to be played with by Mika as soon as it’s ready, the other one is going to be Mika’s when she is much older. It will be one of those dollhouses that will remain in the family.

Here some photo’s of the warehouse

My mother told her friend Duck I was into this sort of thing and it so happened that Duck had a dollhouse, however it was was just sitting there and many people had taken furniture and bits of pieces out of the dollhouse over the years. Her intention was to one day do it up herself, but there never seem to be time for it. She gave it to me and I’m just loving it! When I got it, it had half a roof and it was extremely dirty. It had no stairs, one window, the other one missing and broken.

This floor is my next project. It will be on the ground floor. Also made out off stirring sticks. This will take up some more time! It’s called the hungarian point.

So far on my dollhouse adventure.

Making a cast

Yesterday my brother and I made a cast of a clay head. This was the first time I made a clay figure head and it turned out pretty well. My inspiration was my daughter Mika. It was pretty nerve racking, because so many things can go wrong. I’m still nowhere near the finished product and there are many more hurtles on the way, but I am enjoying the path of getting there. Just from doing this one time, I have already learned there are things I could probably have done better and more efficient. I used plaster for the cast, however because of the great detail in the face, it could so easily break off, so perhaps I should use a latex mold next time. But then you have the problem of latex on latex. The idea is that I’ll end up with a latex head. Interesting progress! I made a couple of photo’s of the cast process. Check it out!

The next fase will be pouring in the latex into the mold. I will also have to give the latex skin colour. To be continued!
